The Sacrament of Matrimony
In the Sacrament of Matrimony (Marriage), through their public promises of love, Christ binds together husband and wife in a lifelong union.
In order to be married in a Catholic church, one partner at least must be a baptised member of the Catholic Church and both must be free to marry (not previously married, unless their previous marriage was annulled).
The parish requires at least one year's notice for weddings. All couples are required to participate in a Marriage Preparation Course (either in the parish or in another Catholic context) and must meet with the Parish Priest even if they are planning to marry outside the parish. The marriage course gives the couple an opportunity to discuss practical aspects of the Sacrament of Matrimony in a relaxed environment with other couples also planning to marry.
Please contact the Parish Office for information on booking your wedding and the marriage preparation course.
This Guide to getting married within The Catholic Church may answer some questions you may have about your Catholic church wedding, before you meet with a priest or begin the course.
